Albert Allan Kolb

KOLB, Albert Allan - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Albert Allan Kolb on October 13, 2017. Albert was born May 17, 1946 at Star City, SK. Albert was a very caring person always ready to lend a helping hand to friends and neighbors. He was a jack of all trades, great fisherman (some did get away) and hunter, tree cutter, gardener and card player. He especially enjoyed the early morning exclusive “Breakfast Club” with his friends at A & W. Albert was a baker by trade. His career started at an early age in Saskatoon at Mothers Bakery. Albert and Rita were married in 1972 and they moved to Vancouver where he was employed at Weston Bakeries and a small European Bakery and they also managed an apartment block. They moved to Drumheller in 1977 when Albert became a partner of the IGA Store with brothers David and Gordon. He sold his share in 1981 and moved back to Melfort. He took EARLY RETIREMENT to fish and hunt for 10 years (but managed to sneak in an extra year). In 1992 he decided to join the workforce again as an income tax preparer for H&R Block. In 1994 he became an employee for his wife who had purchased the franchise. It was sold in 2010 so he retired again. He spent some time working for Gordon Hangs and Roy Grypuik helping on the farm during those years also. He also enjoyed cutting down trees so with his “assistant” Ted Magis, they cut down quite a few, in and around Melfort and Saskatoon. In April of 2017 he was diagnosed with lung cancer. He had treatments from May through August and still had a few months to enjoy the season. He enjoyed seeing and playing with Emmy (Ted and Agi’s little dog), who could hardly wait to see him as he always had a treat. He was predeceased by his parents Frank and Emma Kolb, brothers Frankie, David and Lorne, sister Maryanne (in infancy), and brother-in-law Tom Godson. Left to mourn are his wife of 45 years Rita, brothers; Ron (Jean), Gordon (Shirley), and Robert; sisters; Caroline Godson, Linda (Dennis) Schmitz, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Graveside Funeral Service was held at the Star City Cemetery, Star City, SK on Wednesday, October 18, 2017 at 1:00 PM with Father Gethin Edward officiating. The eulogy was given by Harvey Newell and the pallbearers were Walter Romaniuk, Gary Van Camp, Murray Jeffery, Dale McHarg, Dennis Schmitz and Dennis Salewich. Friends so wishing may make memorial contributions to the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.
