Nellie Kornaga

KORNAGA, Nellie - August 21, 1911 - August 28, 2016. Nellie Kornaga was born on August 21, 1911 in Lubaczow, Poland to Stanley and Katherine Kornaga, In August 1928 Nellie and her family immigrated to Canada and settled east of Nipawin in the Silver Pine - Moose Plains district. Nellie worked as a domestic worker for the Pocock family, Mr. & Mrs. Jack Toure and when her sister got married she worked for Dr. & Mrs. Kitely. In 1937 Nellie went to Sheridan, Manitoba for her sister's wedding and remained there working at a boarding house. When the mine closed Nellie moved to Vancouver. When her day job was completed Nellie would attend night classes to better her reading and writing English. After the passing of Nellie's father in 1946 Nellie moved back home to help her mother and brother. She remained on the farm until the passing of her brother in 1991; at this time Nellie moved to Nipawin. With her eyesight failing, Nellie moved to Pineview Lodge July 9, 2002 and remained there until her passing. Nellie was a wonderful gardener. To supplement the income Nellie sold eggs, chickens, cream, vegetables and berries. She was a great hostess, no one left without a meal or coffee. Nellie was predeceased by her parents Stanley and Katherine Kornaga; her sisters Mary and brother-in-law Mike Maksymiec, Agnes and brother-in-law Stanley Moskal and Helen Kornaga; her brother Stanley Kornaga and nephews Emile Moskal, Kory Lloyd and Cole Gaudry. She is survived by 12 nieces and nephews: Elaine Maksymiec, Helen & Victor Baraniski, Victor & Olga Maksymiec, Frances & Michael Lloyd, Jean & Al Pyper, John & Kathy Maksymiec and Marilyn Moskal; 20 great nieces and nephews; 20 great great nieces and nephews and 7 great great great nieces and nephews. The funeral service was held on Saturday, September 3, 2016 at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church with Father Manh officiating. Nellie was laid to rest in Mabel Hill Cemetery.
