Robert "Bob" Arnold

ARNOLD, Robert "Bob" - Was born May 11th, 1920 in Turtleford, SK later moving to Ridgedale, SK in 1925 with his family. After completing his grade 12 he worked in the Ridgedale store. In 1941 Robert married his school sweetheart Irma Thompson and joined the army with the Royal Canadian Engineers. In 1943 Trevor Arnold was born in Chilliwack, BC where Bob was stationed. In 1943 he transferred to the Royal Canadian Airforce and went overseas. He flew with the #6 Bomber Group Command, #420 Snowy Owl Squadron and #424 Tiger Squadron. On March 5th, 1945 Bob had to bail out of an aircraft and a parachute saved his life, as a result he became a member of the Caterpillar Club. Following his return from the war, Bob, Irma and Trevor traveled across Canada and Bob sold magazines. They spent one winter in Flin Flon, MB where Bob worked in the mines. In 1948 they moved to Nipawin, SK where Bob began working in the Electrical Trade and bought some land to begin farming. In 1950 Sharlene was born. In 1952 Bob along with Bill Brockman started Ace Electric which he and Irma ran until their retirement. Bob continued to farm with Trevor for a number of years. Bob was a member of the Nipawin United Church, Royal Canadian Legion, The Masonic Lodge and the Nipawin Seniors. He enjoyed curling, dancing, playing cards and watching the Nipawin Hawks Hockey. He had many friends who he liked to visit with and who he thought a lot of. Robert was predeceased by his wife Irma in 1989. He is survived by his son Trevor (Deanna) Arnold, daughter Sharlene (Larry) Phillips, grandchildren Jeffrey (Rhonda) Arnold, Ryan (Deanne) Arnold and Monique Phillips, great grandchildren Jade and Brandon Arnold, Hunter and Reid Arnold and Shelby Larson. Robert is also survived by a number of nieces and their families as well as numerous friends. Please do not mourn, as he has gone to join his wife, whom he missed.
