Anthony Louis Csapo

CSAPO, Anthony Louis - Anthony Louis Csapo was born on the farm of Louis and Mary Csapo, 6 1/4 miles SW of St. Brieux (September 12, 1933). Anthony completed much of his schooling in St. Brieux, but left during Grade 11 in 1951 to pursue farming, mining and other careers. In 1953, he began working in Bissett, MB at a goldmine. He fondly remembered these times even though they were often dangerous. Later, he worked on the C.N.R. Railroad with his brother John, but swiftly returned to mining gold as well as copper-zinc and diamond drilling in 1956. During the summer of 1959, a lovely maiden appeared on the beach, aptly named Tony's beach. Anthony married Pamela Glover on April 16, 1960. Soon after their first child Linda was born, followed by Charles, Laura and Sheila. In 1965, after spending a few years with his parents, they settled on their own farm and set up a small house and barn. Anthony raised a great variety of crops and animals such as wheat, canola, barley, oats, hay, cattle, pigs, chickens, turkeys, geese and ducks. After his father passed on February 12, 1973, they began building a new house from 1974-75. Anthony also served as a R.M. Councillor from Jan. 1, 1984 until Dec. 31, 1989 in Division Six of the R.M. of Lake Lenore #399. He retired to Melfort from farming in 1992 and sold the farm in the spring of 1993. His mother passed away on Dec. 18th, 1996 after a long life of 83 years. Anthony enjoyed his retirement and filled it with wine making, berry picking, visits with friends and trips to visit relatives in Hungary, British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta. Anthony and Pamela moved to Calgary (Sheila and family) and then in the last few years in Duncan, BC (Linda and family) to be closer to his children. Anthony enjoyed swimming in his retirement, as he had been a northern diver in his younger years and even had flown bush planes! He maintained a vegetable garden and travelled until his last days. Anthony passed away in the hospital in Brandon, Manitoba on May 25, 2017 at 2:45pm. He left behind his loving wife Pamela (Glover) Csapo, 4 children Linda Bracken, Charles Csapo, Laura Haithwaite and Sheila Rogers, as well as 4 grandchildren Melissa Bracken (Linda), Edward Bracken (Linda), Adam Rogers (Sheila) and Pamela Rogers (Sheila). He also left siblings, John, Albert, Margaret (Csapo) Bushell, and Mary (Csapo) Martignetti. Anthony was predeceased by his mother Mary (Sabo) and father Louis Csapo and his sister in law, Liz (John). Vigil of Prayer was held on Friday June 2, 2017 and Funeral Mass was held on Saturday June 3, 2017 both services from the St. Brieux R.C. Church with Father George Canto as celebrant. Rite of committal followed at the St. Brieux R.C. Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Anthony may be directed to the Canadian Diabetes Association and / or the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation.
