Florence Stonehouse

STONEHOUSE, Florence - August 7, 1923 - July 11, 2017 Florence Priscilla Stonehouse (nee McCrea) was born on August 7, 1923 to Clement and Augustine McCrea in St. Paul, Alberta. When she was two years old they moved to Prudhomme, SK and lived there until 1934 at which time they moved to Zenon Park, SK. Florence attended school until she was fifteen years old and then went to work as a maid for the mayor of Prince Albert, SK. This didn't last long because if you knew Florence, she did not like to lie for people and she didn't like being bossed around. She soon moved back to Arborfield and shortly thereafter met the love of her life. Florence settled in as a homemaker and raised seven children. She loved her hobbies and crafts and some of her crocheting made it all the way to India, Australia and Austria. She loved nothing better than finding that 1st patch of blueberries every year on her birthday and we won't even guess how many pails were picked through the years. Her gardens every year would make the gardens of today look small. Florence worked outside the home for a few years in Zenon Park at the jacket factory. When they retired from the farm in Connell Creek they took over the concession at Pasquia Regional Park for a few years and then settled in Carrot River, SK. You could always count on Florence to prepare a great meal at any given time for unexpected company. Everyone was always welcome and if you were a card player that was even better and everything stopped. She continued playing crib right up to and including the day she had her stroke. Florence married John Stonehouse on September 16, 1941 and celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary in September, 2007. From this blessed union they raised 7 children. Florence is survived by her children Grant (Betty), Albert (Tanya), Raymond (Daryl), Robert (Lorie), Susan Walton, RoseMarie (Larry) Landego, Jacqueline (Daniel) Ghesquiere. Her sister Alice McCrea and brother Leon (Jillian) McCrea, sisters-in-law Francis McCrea, Delma Stonehouse and Betty Stonehouse. Also to treasure her memory are 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, 9 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. As well as her crib buddies Helen, Dorothy, Alf, Jake and Perry. Florence was predeceased by her parents, her loving husband John, son-in-law Herb Walton, grandchildren Kim Stonehouse and SandyLynn Walton and great grandchildren Jayden Stonehouse and Johnason Stonehouse, brothers Lawrence, Gilbert, Eddie, Raymond, Maurice, Laurier, Marcel and Armand, sisters Yvonne McCrea, Theresa Larmand, and Annette Creelman. A memorial service for family and relatives was held on Monday, July 17, 2017 at the Coventry Funeral Chapel. Interment followed in Jordan River Cemetery.
