Doris Edith Childs

CHILDS, Doris Edith - August 25, 1930 - Gilbert Plains, Manitoba November 19, 2017 - Cochrane, Alberta Doris Edith Childs, beloved wife of Gerald Dewitt Childs of Cochrane, AB, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2017 at the age of 87 years. Doris obtained a Degree in Home Economics at the University of Manitoba and held many roles during her life. They included homemaker, Dietitian at the University of Alberta and Holy Cross Hospitals, as well as Diet Counselor at the Rocky View General Hospital, the Louise Dean School and at Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed sewing, preparing nutritious meals for our family and gardening. She tended to the flowers at our family home in Lakeview, Calgary and at our summer home in Lake Country BC where Mom and Dad spent many summers after retirement. She enjoyed trips to England and Scotland with Dad, and was an avid supporter of her family’s sporting events and activities. She loved summer evenings on the porch at the lake, sipping a glass of wine while doing crossword puzzles with Dad. Doris attended Lakeview United Church for many years. Her greatest achievement in life was to be a devoted wife and mother. Doris is survived by her Husband, Gerald Childs who she married on October 4, 1952; children Grant, Scott (Michelle), Patty (Avery Reiter); grandchildren Clarke, Danielle and Koltan Childs. She is also survived by her friends and extended family. She was predeceased by her parents, Robert and Emma Walton and her sisters, Ellen Miller and Margaret Crowther. A celebration of Doris’ life will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY (Cochrane, 369 Railway Street, Cochrane, AB), on February 10, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In lieu of flowers, the family asks friends and family to consider making a donation to the Canadian Mental Health Association or the Bethany Care Foundation. Thank you to the exceptional, caring staff at Bethany Cochrane for taking such good care of Mom. They were Mom's angels. Thank you to Dad who was at her side every day during her stay at Bethany. In living memory of Doris Childs, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.13236514
