Russell H. Sippel

SIPPEL, Russell H. - Russell Henry Sippel, 85, of Tavistock passed away peacefully in Stratford General Hospital on Monday, January 8, 2018. He was born in West Zorra Township, Oxford County on November 6, 1932 a son of the late William and Hilda (Wettlaufer) Sippel. He was the owner and operator of R.H. Sippel Welding Shop in Hickson for many years; was a member of the Hickson Fire Department for over 40 years where he had served as Captain and Deputy Chief; was an active member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sebastopol-Tavistock; was a quiet, honorable and respectable man with a passion for dancing and gardening. Russell is survived by his wife, the former Elva Carrie Wettlaufer, whom he married on December 6, 1958; two daughters, Sharon Sippel and Rick Walton of Stratford, Tanya and husband Rick McIntosh of RR 2 Embro; four granddaughters, Angela Zehr and husband Cole Aicken, Jackie Zehr, Rebecca McIntosh and Abigail McIntosh; one great-grandson, Miles Henry Aicken; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Catherine "Kay" Sippel, Leonard Wettlaufer, Ethel Sippel, Lenore and Harold Wolfgram. He was predeceased by his brother, Roy W. Sippel and his brother-in-law, Carl Sippel. There will be no funeral home visitation. A service to celebrate the life of Russell will be held in Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Sebastopol-Tavistock on Saturday, January 13, 2018 at 11 a.m. The Rev. Richard P. Brown will officiate. Reception following. Interment will be in Trinity Ev. Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated and may be made by calling the Francis Funeral Home, 77 Woodstock St.N., Tavistock at 519-655-2431 or at the church on Saturday.13242591

I just heard about your Dad's passing this week. Very sorry for your loss but I know he had a very active and full life. Hope everyone is doing well. Take care.

Dear Sharon, I remember spending a day or two with you and your family in the 70’s when we worked at the woollen mill in Tavistock. Howard Swass walked us to your mom and dads house on a rope because the weather was so stormy and we all stayed together. Your mom and dad where so kind. Such a great memory.

Russ and Glenn were such good buddies throughout their school years - and for a long time after. On our visits to Ontario Glenn always made an effort to see him.

I'm sure they've connected again in heaven! So sorry for your loss. Deepest sympathy from Jean in Calgary.
