Audrey Marie Wentworth

WENTWORTH, Audrey Marie - With great sadness, we announce the passing of Audrey (Audree) Marie Wentworth (nee Blanchard) peacefully, on December 23, 2018, at Belleville General Hospital. Audree was born in Brantford to James Wilfrid and Nellie (Eyre) Blanchard. If ever asked her age, Audree would reply that she ‘was the same age as her tongue, a little older than her teeth.’ As such, Audree’s wish to keep her age a secret will be respected. Audree and her older sister and only sibling, Margaret, were very close and had a happy childhood in Brantford. Audree came of age during WWII and enjoyed attending dances where she met servicemen from all walks of life - many with whom she corresponded during the war- at the Maple Leaf Club in Brantford and when visiting Port Dover and Port Stanley with her many female friends. Audree was employed as a secretary at Brantford Coach and Body prior to her marriage. Audree married Glenn Wentworth in 1948. They shared over 50 years of love and laughter, living in Brantford, Bethany, and Marmora. Their only child Richard (Rick) was born in 1950. Glenn, Audree, and Rick enjoyed 20 or so wonderful summers at their cottage on Belmont Lake. Glenn and Audree enjoyed curling together and traveling extensively on cruises and other trips across the globe after Glenn’s retirement. A favourite destination for short train trips for Audree and Rick was Quebec City. Audree worked as a secretary for Stewart W. Allan Land Surveyors in Belleville from the early 1970s till early 1990s. She volunteered at Belleville General Hospital Auxiliary for over 25 years, until her resignation for health reasons in November 2018. Audree was predeceased by her parents James Wilfrid and Nellie (Eyre) Blanchard in 1970; her dear sister, Margaret (Blanchard) Johnson in 1988 and brother-in-law, Herbert Johnson in 1996; her loving nephew Stephen Johnson in 2014; her cousin and friend, Marion Walker in 2018; her beloved husband Glenn in 1999; and in 2012, her son, Richard (Rick) to whom she was devoted. Audree will be very sadly missed by her loving niece Janice Johnson of Cambridge, ON and her niece-in-law, Susie (late Stephen) Johnson, of Indianapolis, IN, along with her great-nephew Brian (Elizabeth) Johnson of Indianapolis, IN and their children Christopher, Caroline and Rachel; great-nephew Glenn (Leigh Anne) Johnson of Indianapolis, IN and their children Elyse, Luke and Nick; great-niece Marni (Johnson) Steinfort (Craig) of Chicago, IL and their children Alexander and Keira; and great-nephew Matthew Johnson (Julianna) of Nashville, TN. Also survived by cousins Joyce Haun, Dennis Daughen, niece Margaret Edmondson, nephew Dan Wentworth and their families in Ontario, along with other extended family, and many cherished friends. Audree will be remembered fondly by all who knew her for her keen intelligence, her strength of character, her determination and independent spirit, her genuine kindness towards others, her sense of humour and fun and ever-present smile, her obvious affection for and pride in family members and the value she placed on friendship. Audree loved dogs, cats, and children - all of which were drawn to her - and she could establish a rapport and strike up a conversation with anyone. In addition to traveling and curling (which she played for over 40 years) Audree enjoyed playing bridge, golfing, and seeing new plays/musicals in Toronto, Stratford, and Cambridge. Audree loved ‘The County,’ visiting wineries - and her daily glass of red wine. Audree was truly one of a kind - from riding in rumble seats as a kid to sending emails - she amassed a wealth of life experiences and personified the notion of ‘living life to its fullest.’ Aside from the last month and a half, Audree was fortunate to have led a healthy, happy, independent life. At the end, she accepted the inevitable with characteristic dignity and grace. Per Audree's request, no viewing or funeral services will be held. In the spring, a Celebration of Life will be held in Belleville and her ashes will be laid to rest in Paris, ON, alongside those of her husband, Glenn and her son, Rick. If desired, donations can be made to any charity of your choice. www.mcconnellfuneralhome.ca13319445
