Norman Goodchild

GOODCHILD, Norman - Norman Goodchild passed away on January 8th, 2019 in Onigaming First Nations at the age of 47. Norman is survived by his parents; Denise and Norman Copenace; sister Alysia Copenace (Andrew 'Tiny' Major) his children, Justin Goodchild, Ashtyn Copenace, Tianna Copenace (Kevin Paul), Zachary Copenace, Lezayah Copenace, Tameka Copenace, Malikye Goodchild, Isabella Goodchild, Niisha Major and grandchildren Ayla Goodchild, Ila Paul. His nephews Brendan, Andyn, and Niece Cassie Major. Predeceased by his grandmothers Maggie Copenace and Isabella Goodchild, Grandfathers Gerald Copenace and Louis Goodchild and numerous aunties, uncles and cousins. Norman was born in Thunder Bay, Ontario on November 15th 1971, to Denise and Norman Copenace. He was (by far) the Greatest Commercial Fisherman on Lake of the Woods, aka Mr. Walleye! He was a very well known member in his community and was highly respected by those who knew him. He enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, hunting, golfing and spending time with his precious children and beautiful grand-daughters. He was very adventurous and in his younger years he spent a summer training in the Canadian Armed Forces. Then he found his calling as a courageous crew boss firefighting! He was a friendly a guy and enjoyed the company of all his numerous friends and fun loving cousins especially Ginda! He was always willing to lend a helping hand when requested and his warm welcoming smile will be greatly missed by many! Pallbearers; Brendan Major, Andrew Major, Joe Jack, Cecil Copenace, Derek Paypompee, Conrad Paypompee, Donald (Kimbi) Copenace. Honorary Pallbearers; Louie Nabigon, Bruce Goodchild, Daniel Michano, Tony Michano. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who knew him. Wake services will be held on Tuesday, January 15, 2019 beginning at 3:00 pm at the Onigaming School Gymnasium. Traditional Services will be held on Wednesday, January 16, 2019 at 12:00 pm at the Onigaming School Gymnasium with burial to follow.
