Miriam Currie Mitchell

MITCHELL, Miriam Currie - Passed away 14 January, 2019 at Providence Care Hospital, Kingston, Ontario. Born November 1, 1918 in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Cherished mother of Christopher (Wendy Stewart), and Mary; grandchildren, Kym Classen, Margaret and Peter Nowell; great granddaughter, Jaida Classen. Predeceased by parents, William Fraser Currie and Ruth Campbell Currie, and sister, Eleanor McManus. She will be sadly missed by sister-in-law, Diane Mitchell (William Mitchell) of Vancouver, nieces, nephews and friends. Grew up in Niagara Falls and was educated at MacDonald Institute (the University of Guelph) and the Teacherís College of London, Ontario. Served for 2 years with the Canadian Red Cross Corps in London, England during WWII. Taught educationally challenged children in Ottawa and St Catharines. In retirement, Miriam enjoyed Later Life Learning, volunteering, travel and entertaining. Many thanks to the caring staff of the Royale Place Retirement Residence and Providence Care Hospital, Heritage 2. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at the ROBERT REID FUNERAL HOME , 309 Johnson Street, Kingston, Ontario Tuesday 26 March, 2019 at 11:30 a.m. A reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Canadian Red Cross Society or St Markís Anglican Church Barriefield.
