Flora May Doherty

DOHERTY, Flora May - Flora May Doherty of Stratford Ontario, passed peacefully on February 7, 2019 with family in attendance at Stratford General Hospital. May was born May 9, 1930 in St. Vincent, Grey County, Ontario to Robert Neil and Flora Jane McCrae (nee Vaughan). She was the second youngest of seven children: Sarah Isabelle, John Kenneth, Mary Christina, Kathaline, Robert Duncan and Melville Ellwood. May graduated Meaford High School July 16, 1947. She ventured forth to Grand Bend where she met a young RCAF airman Richard Malcolm Doherty. They married July 16, 1949 at the United Church in Meaford, Ontario. May and Mal enjoyed over 63 years together raising two children - Virginia Fenzl and Scott (Anne). She leaves behind her children and grandchildren: Sean (Maryah), Karen (Mark) and Ian (Misty) and great-grandchildren: Jade, Oren and Baelin. May was predeceased by her siblings and most recently by her husband Mal (January 17, 2013). May and Mal moved to many locations in Ontario as a result of Malís service with RCAF and subsequent careers in Education. May applied her creative talents to make each new house they bought or built, a welcoming home to family and the many new friends that she (and Mal) made along the way. Mayís flair and passion for interior design led her to establish successful businesses - Mayís Decorative Accessories and Pier Lighting Studio - offering giftware, lighting, furniture and interior design services. Her clients often became dear friends. Mom was a strong and determined person who valued her independence, yet she was happiest when entertaining her family and friends. May left the following words: "When Iím gone, when Iíve come to the end of my journey, And my last ever mile, Just forget if you canÖ that I ever frowned, And remember the smile." The family wishes to thank all of Mayís caregivers, Stratford General Hospital staff and Dr. Sean Blaine for the compassionate care they showed Mom over the years. In respect of May's wishes there shall be no public visitation or service. A private family memorial service will take place at a later date. Donations, if desired, may be made to the Stratford Perth Hospice Foundation.13329589
