Nels McKay

McKAY, Nels - With heavy hearts, the family of W. Nelson G. McKay, of Owen Sound announce his passing on Thursday morning, May 9th, 2019, in his 78th year. Dearly loved husband and best friend for 55 years of the late Nancy McKay (nee Gibbons) (2016). Loving father of Tim McKay (Lori), of Owen Sound and John McKay (Amanda), of Ottawa. Proud grandfather of Amie McKay (Todd), Cara McKay (Riley), Sam McKay and Michael Baker (Ashley). Loving “big papa” of Elias. Special friend of Elaine Cameron. Nels was born in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, on June 25th, 1941 to the late Francis Little and the late Della Little-McKay (nee Carlson). He was the step-son of the late Bruce McKay. Dear brother of Vernon McKay (Kate) and Mary Lockhart (Tom). Loving son-in-law of Teresa Gibbons and the late Clarence “Cooey” Gibbons. Nels loved and cherished his many brothers and sisters-in-law, Ron Gibbons, Doug Gibbons (Marg), Bunny Prowd (Doug), Patty Cochrane (Rob), Rick Gibbons (Brenda) and Randy Gibbons (Michelle). Nels had many loving nieces and nephews who he always held close to his heart. He will be sadly missed by his many friends. The family would like to thank the staff of the Dialysis Unit at the Grey Bruce Health Services for his wonderful care during his weekly visits. Friends may call at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME , 250 - 14th Street, West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Tuesday evening from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. A Funeral Service for Nels McKay will be held in the Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, May 15th, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lorrie Gibbons officiating. Interment in Greenwood Cemetery. If so desired, the family would appreciate donations to the Owen Sound Regional Hospital Foundation for the Dialysis Unit and the Kidney Foundation of Canada as an expression of sympathy. Please accept my sympathy as you face the sorrow of losing such a fine person from your family circle. Nels was an honourable, friendly, caring man.
