Sharon D. McCormick

McCORMICK, Sharon D. - Of R.R.#4, St. Thomas, age 98, passed away at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Tuesday, June 28, 2011. Beloved husband of the late Elva (Howard) McCormick (2005). Dearly loved father of Carl R. McCormick of R.R.#4, St. Thomas. Cherished grandfather of Leanne McCormick of Port Stanley, Carl McCormick Jr. of Homer, Alaska, and Christine McCormick of Ukiah, California. Also survived by 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his own immediate family, having been predeceased by 4 brothers, Gladstone, George, Archie and Donald McCormick. Sharon was born in Lawrence Station, ON, June 15, 1913, son of the late John and Clara (Barber) McCormick. He was a retired Supervisor of Maintenance for the Elgin County Public School Board. Sharon was a life member and for many years was the secretary of St. Thomas Lodge #44, A.F. & A.M. A 32nd degree mason (Scottish Rite), he was a member of Mocha Temple, London where he was a member of Clan 59 Hillbilly Unit. Sharon was a member of the Hi Ro Shrine Club, St. Thomas-Elgin, a Past President of the Y.M.C.A., and the Foreman Club, St. Thomas. During the Second World War, he served overseas with the Royal Canadian Navy on the ship “Oshawa.“ In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public visitation or funeral service. Private interment in Elmdale Memorial Park. Memorial donations to Shrine Hospitals for Children or the charity of one's choice gratefully acknowledged. My sympathy and condolences to the family. Sharon not only worked with my dad (Earl)at the Board of Education but both he and Elva were very good friends with my parents. They also attended my wedding in 1974.
