Edward Saraydar

SARAYDAR, Edward - Suddenly in London on December 4, 2012, in his 88th year. Ed was a Professor at the University of Western Ontario, in the Economics Department, which he often characterized as being like family to him. His career included serving in the Air Corps of the United States Army, and with the Merchant Marine during the Korean War. He was a communications specialist, or “sparks“ when at sea, being an expert in Morse Code. Under the GI Bill he attended the University of California at Berkeley where he fell in love with and married his French language instructor, Alma. He received his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University, and his PhD from the University of Rochester. Ed and Alma came to London in 1967 and had faculty positions at the University until their retirement. Alma died in 1998. Ed was noted for his lively conversation, easy laughter, and loyal support of others. He will be sorely missed by his legion of friends. A memorial gathering to celebrate Ed's life will be held in the New Year. 12155322

I will miss you Ed!

Whenever Ed came into the office for his appointments with Dr. Alija, he literally always brought a smile to my face! I was so shocked and saddened to hear of Ed's passing and I feel sad to know that he will not longer be stopping in. Ed would always stop in or call just to say "Hello" and walk back home, across the street, once he was done. Ed I will miss you, and you were by far my favourite patient! Please keep on smiling and laughing up there and heaven has gained an amazing person!!!
A Wonderful Man, Gone But Not Forgotten
Posted by Agron Alija (Family Doctor) On Friday, December 21, 2012
I was Edward's family physician over the last year and a half. In that time I have came to know how good of a man Ed really was. I felt very priviledged to be his family physician, even if it was only for a short period of time. Ed will be missed by myself, as well as all of my staff who came to enjoy his presence and great personality that he bought to the office. Ed will not be forgotten and we send our condolences to his family and friends. Agron Alija M.D., CCFP

Here's looking at you Ed! (One of Ed's email quotes.)

Thank you Ed

Ed was wonderfully interesting and culturally active - always curious and enchanting. I'm going to miss his emails, his fun quotes, his sagacious observations and his great smile. I already miss him.

The poet Rumi (Jalal ad-Din) wrote;

"Don't grieve. Anything you lose comes round in another form."

Still grieving, though, for a dear friend but peeking over my shoulder to see that mischievous smile coming from somewhere!

Rest in peace Ed. You are missed.
