SMALL, Fern Thelma - December 8, 1923 to January 12, 2013. Peacefully at home with her family by her side. Predeceased by her beloved husband of 56 years, Darell, and her brother R.F. Fawcett. Born on Wolfe Island, Ontario to Madeline and Francis Fawcett, Fern lived in Ottawa since 1956. She worked as an administrator at Carleton University for 17 years and was a devoted member of St. Thomas the Apostle Church and the Ottawa Diocesan Anglican Church Women. Fern was an avid historian and genealogist, a co-founder of the British Isles Family History Society of Greater Ottawa and a life-long member of the Ontario Genealogical Society and the Monarchist League of Canada. A loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend, Fern will be sadly missed by her children Darell (Lynne), Carol (James), Holly (John) and Leslie (Jeffrey); her grandchildren Allison (Don), Virginia (Peter), Jennifer (Ben), Rebecca (John) and Nicholas; her great-grandchildren Fiona, Tessa and Jane; her sisters Dawn Kiell and Margaret Fawcett; her brother Kaye Fawcett (Connie); her sister-in-law Marette Fawcett; and her many nieces and nephews. Heartfelt thanks to Dr. Louise Coulombe, Lise, Linda, Avan and all who helped care for our mother at home. A memorial service will be held at St. Thomas the Apostle Anglican Church, 2345 Alta Vista Drive, Ottawa, on Saturday, January 19 at 2 pm with reception following.
