GALILEO, "Elio" - Peacefully, surrounded by his loving family at Marshall Gowland Manor, Galileo "Elio" Canini passed away on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at the age of 83. Beloved husband of the late Irma (1997). Loving father of the late Robert Canini (1984), Enzo Canini and Silvana (Mario) Harding. Cherished grandfather of Shanna Canini-Jones and Robbie, Jesse and Rachel Harding. Dear brother-in-law of Gina (Concetto) Petitta, Ughelia (late Anacleto) Canini, Anna (late Silvio) Ferrera and Franco (Antonetta) Palombo. Also remembered by many nieces and nephews. Elio was a longtime member of the Boilermakers Local 128. He loved to garden and was a competitive cyclist. Elio loved spending time with his family and will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Family and friends will be received on Thursday, May 23, 2013, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at SMITH FUNERAL HOME , 1576 London Line, Sarnia. A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 24, 2013, at St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 1011 Oak Ave., Sarnia. Entombment in Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery. I have worked with Elio for years at Shell Refinery. Will always remember the smile. My thoughts are with his family today.

Saddened by the loss of Elio. He was one of my favorite residents and I loved to make him smile by practicing my Italian on him. His smile could light up a room! May the fond memories you have of him bring you some peace.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your father. We are never prepared for the loss of a parent, We never loose the wonderful memories they left us and I know you have so many. Take care and know that your dad is an angelcruising above.
