Charles 'Charlie' McKinnon

McKINNON, Charles 'Charlie' - In loving memory of Charles 'Charlie' McKinnon. The family announces with sorrow his passing on Wednesday, August 13, 2014 at Lakeshore Assisted Living, Holland, MI. Loving Husband of the Late Nola and Cherished Father of Lonny and Susan McKinnon of Grand Haven, MI and Cheryl and Steve Sams of Nashville, TN. He will be forever remembered by his Grandchildren Kaitlin McKinnon of Farmington Hills, MI and Locklin McKinnon of Brooklyn, NY. Charlie was the last of a long line of railroad men later switching his career to commercial refrigeration. He was the owner of a string of commercial refrigeration companies over the years. In 1993 he and his wife Nola moved from Sterling Heights, MI to Ocala, FL near their daughter Cheryl Sams. Shortly after Nola passed away in 2008 he returned to Michigan in 2010 near his son Lonny McKinnon in Grand Haven, MI. Charlie was a longtime member of the Elks and Moose clubs. In his retirement, he loved to play golf and enjoyed working part-time at a local golf course in Ocala Florida. He fondly remembered playing hockey through high school with longtime friend Tim Horton. He loved the heat of Florida year round as much as having a cigarette dangling from the corner of his mouth. His favorite saying was "Stay cool." He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Charlie was preceded in death by his wife Nola in 2008, and his siblings Barb Mitchell, Pauline McKinnon, and Don McKinnon. In keeping with Charlie’s wishes a private memorial service will be held. Burial to take place in the Porquis Union Cemetery, Porquis Junction, ON. In Memoriam donations may be made to Lakeshore Assisted Living, 16331 Robbins Rd, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Please visit to leave a message or memory for the McKinnon family. Arrangements Entrusted to LAKESHORE MEMORIAL SERVICES (616)395-3630 and ABITIBI FUNERAL SERVICES (705)258-407712828029
