Mary Youzwa

YOUZWA, Mary - April 22, 1927 - March 15, 2016 Mary Youzwa was born in Blaine Lake, Saskatchewan on April 22, 1927 to Mike and Mary Romanycia. The family moved to farm in the Sunnybrook district near Nipawin in 1930. She attended Sunnybrook School where she completed her grade ten by correspondence. She finished grade eleven at the Nipawin Comprehensive High School and then returned to the farm to help her parents. In 1948 she married Anton Youzwa. They started farming in 1952 at her parents' place. They were blessed with three children - Gerald, Patricia and Donald. Mary was an active member of Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church and the Ukrainian Women's Association of Canada, Olena Pchilka Branch. Her interests were centered around her family and her home. She enjoyed gardening and cooking. With her sewing, knitting, crocheting and cross stitching skills she made beautiful things for her home, family and friends. She bowled in Nipawin for many years and won numerous trophies and pins. Mary was delighted to become a grandmother and then a great grandmother. Her family was her first priority. She never failed to show them her love and generosity. Mary lived on the farm until 1988 when she moved into Nipawin. In 2012 she became a resident of Pineview Lodge where she lived until she passed away. She will be fondly remembered as a warmhearted and dedicated woman. Left to treasure her memory are her son, Gerald of Nipawin; her daughter, Patricia (Robert Richards) of Regina and her son, Donald (Barb) of Nipawin. She leaves her grandchildren Greg Youzwa (Jen) and their daughters, Charlee and Rowan of Nipawin; Jeff (Gerrilee) Youzwa of Saskatoon and their daughter, Blakely; Lyndon (Karly) Youzwa of Nipawin; Tom Richards of Saskatoon and Kate Richards of Edmonton. She also leaves her sisters, Effie Niwranski of Melfort and Helen Obodiak of Nipawin. She will be sadly missed by all of her family and friends. The prayer service was held on Friday, March 18, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. in the Coventry Funeral Chapel, Nipawin, SK. The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 19, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Codette, SK. Officiating at both was Rev. Father Patrick Powalinsky. Mary was laid to rest in Sts. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery.
