Janet Julia Rawlyk

RAWLYK, Janet Julia - Was born July 30, 1928 in Wakaw. At the age of 17, she enrolled in Normal School in Saskatoon. Due to a teacher shortage, her career started 4 months later. University classes continued during the summer and when her children were in school. In 1951, she met the love of her life, Ernest Rawlyk, while teaching in Nipawin. They were married July 27, 1957. Mom felt blessed to have three children. She was involved in their activities including 4-H, and her own interests (curling, Ag. Society) and bookkeeping at their family business, M. Rawlyk & Sons. She was an honorary life member of the Tri-City and Provincial Horticultural Societies. She was thrilled when her grand-daughters Alyssa, Lindsay, Chelsey, and Carly arrived. Life changed with Dad's passing, but she kept busy with gardening and playing bingo and she travelled the world. In 2012, she moved to Saskatoon to be closer to family. Determination enabled her to persevere through health challenges and be there to celebrate Alyssa's wedding and welcome new family members, Jeff and Baylee. Spruce Manor Care Home in Dalmeny became her final home. The family thanks the staff for their compassionate care. Mom passed away March 23, 2016. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie in 1993, her parents, Kasper & Josephine Holinaty, brothers, Charles and Albert and nephew Kenneth. She will be sadly missed by her children, Gary, Portage La Prairie; Gail (Melvin Podhorodecki), Warman and their daughter Alyssa (Jeff and Baylee Johnson), Dalmeny; Glen (Bernadette) their children, Lindsay, Chelsey and Carly, Saskatoon, sisters-in-law Barbara and Stella Holinaty, nieces and nephews, and Dad's family. The prayer service was held in the Coventry Funeral Chapel, Nipawin, SK, Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service was held at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of All Saints, Nipawin, SK on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. Janet was laid to rest in Mabel Hill Cemetery.
