George Young

YOUNG, George - December 27, 1916 - May 4, 2016 George William Young passed away May 4th 2016 at the age of 99 years old. He had lived a long and very healthy life until his passing. He lived at Pineview Lodge in Nipawin for the last 2 years. He was born December 27th 1916 at his family farm near Moosimin SK to May and John Young. The family moved to the Nipawin area in 1933 by horse and wagon. George was a WW2 Veteran and when he returned George farmed and did carpenter work all his life. He farmed in the Carrot River area until he bought land just west of Nipawin in the 60's. He married Lillian Lowe in 1950. At the time of Lillian's passing in 2014 they had been married for 64 years. They had three sons. George and his son Ray farmed together until George officially retired at 96 years old. He insisted on hauling "just a few loads'' from the combine for the last few years. Grandpa enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He spent his seeding and harvest seasons alongside his three grandchildren that lived on the farm near Nipawin. He loved to tell them stories as they rode in the tractors and trucks with him. They learned a lot of lessons from him during those long special days together. In many ways Kris, Michael and Scott, were raised by two sets of parents. Later in life, as he began to have great grandchildren, he loved to visit and have a cup of tea with them. George was predeceased by his wife Lillian in May of 2014. He leaves behind to cherish their memories, Raymond (Debbie) of Nipawin, Dave of Red Deer AB, and Daryl (Suzanne) of Lloydminster AB. Grandchildren, Kris (Rachel) Young of Nipawin, Michael (Katie) Young of Toronto, Ontario, Scott (Melodie) Young of Regina, Sk. , Andrew Young, of Edmonton AB, Kate (Sheldon) Vida of Red Deer AB and Kaitlynn Young of Lloydminster AB. As well as great grandchildren, Mackenzie Schmidt, Mea, Levi, Liam & Oliver Young. A grave side service was held at Mabel Hill Cemetery in Nipawin on Saturday, May 14, 2016.
