Margaret Belanger

BELANGER, Margaret - Margaret was born on June 30, 1934 to parents Marjorie and Harry Atkinson on her grandparent's farm just east of Codette. Margaret was raised in Prince Albert and Sutherland where she graduated from Grade 12 as well as graduated from the Conservatory of music in Piano. She attended Bookkeeping College in Saskatoon. She traveled a bit and met her first husband in Kamloops, BC where their daughter Linda Ruth was born. In those days life was not always easy, so Margaret moved to Saskatoon and started her career at the Federation for the Blind. From there she moved to Uranium City and worked in the cookery. Margaret met Henry Nuett, they married in Uranium City. Margaret did bookkeeping for several companies and was employed with the Municipal Corporation until 1963 when she and Linda moved to Saskatoon. After her divorce, they moved back to Uranium City, where her heart was, it was home. Margaret met Bud Belanger and they married in 1966 and moved to Prince George, BC. Even though she was a career woman she was the best mom. She didnít just send Linda to Girl Guides but became a leader, then the Commissioner for all of Northern Saskatchewan. She and Linda were alone together a lot, 3 divorces made her a single mom most of the time. Life was hard but you'd never know it. Even through her health issues and tremendous pain, she could still laugh at herself. She had tremors and would shake so bad, but she would make a joke of it. A great woman, mother and grandmother, always ready to help and very encouraging to others. Margaret was predeceased by her father and mother Harry and Marjorie Atkinson, brothers Jim and Lorne, 3 past husbands, Clyde Hamilton, Henry Nuett and Bud Belanger. Left to treasure her memory are her daughter Linda Swehla (David), grandchildren: Leone Maurer, Bradley (Pam) Maurer, Laura Maurer (Jeff Nycholat), great grandchildren Claire, Ben, Elle and Alivia. She is also survived by her brother Don (Cecile) Atkinson and many nieces, nephews and friends. Margaret is lovingly known by her family as Mary and her friends as Margaret. A Memorial Service for the late Margaret Belanger was held September 15, 2016 at 2:00pm at HERITAGE FUNERAL HOME , Nipawin, SK. Long lost friend
Posted by Al'deen (Friend) On Sunday, April 23, 2017
Going through letters, photos,I found a note from Cherie Gregg who wrote of our friend Marg. I remember Marg for being fun, true and down to earth. I searched on Google only to find her obituary. I remember her telling me that she had been too long up north and when she was driving down south she saw a train. She told me she was alone in the car and yet she yelled out to herself, "a train!" She was so excited. Today when I see a train, I remember Marg and her excitement to see "a train".
