Victor Baraniski

BARANISKI, Victor - July 30, 1933 - May 15, 2017 Victor passed away on May 15, 2017 at 1:09 A.M. at the Nipawin Hospital with his wife Helen by his side. Cancer took his life but he fought a courageous battle always being optimistic that he would get better. Victor was born to Joe and Rosie Baraniski on July 30, 1933 along with his twin brother, Edward. He attended Maryville School riding his bike in the summer and walking in the winter. Victor enjoyed music and self-taught himself to play the accordion. Soon with a group of local boys a band was formed. He played for many weddings and other functions always drawing a large crowd. He played with several bands in his life and enjoyed playing with them all. Towards the end of his life due to weakness and the weight of his instrument he was unable to play. He then listened to old time music, visualizing that he was playing with them. After completing school he remained on the farm, later moving to Melfort working for Ed Vickar at the garage. He learned the trade of auto-body work. He also worked for a brief period in the oil industry but returned to his chosen career. Victor liked restoring cars and at one time he had ten; each fixed to perfection. Because of storage problems he was forced to sell all of them but two; a 1967 Thunderbird and a 1963 Chev Impala convertible. On May 5, 1962 Victor married Helen Maksymiec in Melfort. They were married for 55 years. In 1994 Victor along with his wife and several family members travelled to Poland and Ukraine. On this trip they acquainted themselves with many relatives unknown to them until then. They visited many beautiful churches and also the prison and death camps of World War II. On his return home he often said that Canada was the best place to live. Victor was predeceased by his parents, his older brother Ignace and his twin brother Edward. He was also predeceased by his in-laws Mike and Mary Maksymiec, grandparents, many uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and a very dear friend, Daryl Shudra. Victor is survived by his loving wife, Helen, sisters-in-law Mary and Annette Baraniski, Elaine Maksymiec, Frances (Gale) Lloyd, Jean-Adele (Al) Pyper, brothers-in-law Vic (Olga) Maksymiec and John (Kathy) Maksymiec and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The prayer service was held on Friday, May 19th at the Coventry Funeral Chapel. The funeral service took place Saturday, May 20th, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church with Fr. Manh Nguyen and Fr. Mariusz Zajac officiating. Victor was laid to rest in Mabel Hill Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to STARS Air Ambulance or Canadian Cancer Society.
