John William (Jack) Hitch

HITCH, John William (Jack) - September 2, 1921 - December 2, 2018 Jack was promoted to Glory at Kingston, Ontario after a full and rich life enjoying his years as a Bandmaster in the Salvation Army, as a Machinist in the Canadian Armed Forces, retiring as a Lance Corporal, as a Member of the Masons, and as an avid Golfer and Grandfather. His “Hole-in-One” story is legendary. As a child of the Depression, Jack left his family of Windsor Ontario, at a young age, where he had been one of 13 children. He found work here and there in West Toronto, where he met his beloved Winnifred Pells, (Queenie). His years in the Military took their family to Zoest, Germany, Gagetown, New Brunswick, Cobourg, Ontario, and finally he retired from Military life in Toronto, Ontario. After Military retirement, Jack and Queenie moved to Kingston, where Jack worked for Queens University his last 15 working years. Jack was predeceased by his wife Queenie in 2005 and their only daughter Zetta in 2017. He will be greatly missed by his son John Douglas (Donna), son Gordon Allen (Martha), son-in-law Ed Van Herpt, and his grandchildren Katherine, Edward, Nicholas and Patrick as well as eight great grandchildren. The family wish to thank the staff of “Arbour Heights” Kingston, for their kindness and care of Jack these last few years. Friends will be received at the Central Chapel of the GORDON F. TOMPKINS FUNERAL HOME , 49 Colborne St. (at Clergy Street) on Thursday, December 6, 2018 from 12 noon until 1 p.m. Funeral Service will be celebrated in our chapel at 1 p.m. Interment Glenhaven Memorial Gardens. Memorial donations to the MS Society would be greatly appreciated.13314901
