Peter James Beseau

BESEAU, Peter James - It is with sadness that our family shares the news that Peter James Beseau left this world on December 27 at Providence Continuing Care, with family at his side, following a recent diagnosis of lung cancer. Peter was born November 11, 1937 to James Vincent Beseau and Theresa Mae Leeder. The eldest in a lively and close knit family of five siblings, he is predeceased by his brothers Richard (Jan) and Edward (Judith). He is survived by his children James (Britta Gaddes) and Marie (Mark Bennett), grandchildren Cleo Bennett and Moira Gaddes, partner Flo Hawkey, brother Paul (Margaret), sister Theresa Allmark, his uncle Clair Leeder and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Peter was proud of his time spent in the Reserves with the Princess of Wales Own Regiment as 2nd lieutenant and the Scots Fusiliers as Assistant Adjutant (the first attempt to make him an administrator). Following his graduation from Regiopolis he had a career in finance, first with IAC then with the Bank of Nova Scotia in Kitchener before moving on to Orillia as branch manager. After leaving the bank he ventured north into business in Sudbury and Thunder Bay before returning to Kingston to end his working career. Peter was a thoughtful and informed conversationalist, a wry but sympathetic observer of the human condition, a dedicated competitive bridge player, a voracious reader, a dog lover and a generous, kind hearted, gentleman. He loved Ontario's north country and his family home, Howe Island. He taught us to find humour in dark times and to persevere. He would often hum "the band plays on" during difficult times, bringing smiles to faces and resolve to the situation. Our family has lost an anchor but 'the band plays on'; we will adapt and be better because of him. He will be greatly missed. Friends and family are invited to come together to honour and celebrate Peter's life January 20th between 2-4 at the Discovery Center at Fort Henry. A funeral mass and burial will take place at St. Philomena's on Howe Island in the spring.0
