Dorothea Blanche Eddy

EDDY, Dorothea Blanche - Passed away peacefully on January 30, 2019 at Ian Anderson House in Oakville, Ontario due to complications caused by metastatic cancer. She was saddened by the recent loss of loved ones; her husband of 70 years Roy Ernest Eddy passed away on March 3, 2018 and her third child Kathy on August 1, 2017. She was also predeceased by her sisters Madeline and Audrey. Loving mother to Allison Eddy (Patrick Gorry), Warren Eddy (Kathy Eddy), Kathy Dietrich (Wayne Scherger), Joanne Eddy (Michael Coulton) & Paul Eddy (Marcela Leiva Olivares). Grandmother to Jamie, Elizabeth, Rebecca, Sean, David, Paul, Megan, Amanda, Graham & Benjamin. Great Grandmother to Theodore, William, Dexter, Amelia, Sebastian, and three more on the way. Dorothea was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. Her adopted parents Henry Warren McCoy and Lottie May McCoy (Harbottle) were both born in Ontario. After an idyllic childhood Dorothea graduated as a Registered Nurse from the Hamilton General Hospital School of Nursing in 1947. Dorothea remained close with her graduating classmates, meeting annually, for the next 65 years. She started her career at Plummer Memorial Hospital (Sault Area Hospital) and, when Roy was transferred to Mississauga, Ontario in 1966, she continued her career at South Peel Hospital (Trillium Health Partners). In the late 1970's Dorothea switched to geriatric care moving to the newly built Sheridan Villa Long term Care Facility where she finished her career. Dorothea was known for her compassion and excellent care of her patients, often requiring long hours to ensure their needs were met to her high standards. Dorothea is remembered as being an incredible mother who successfully juggled raising five children with a full time career. In the few lighter moments she enjoyed square dancing and was also known to dance the jitterbug. Later in life, and consistent with the importance of family, Dorothea very much enjoyed spending time with all those who were close to her. In lieu of flowers, donations to Ian Anderson House would be appreciated. (

Condolences to all the Eddy family. My parents, who passed away within 6 months of each other, loved your parents and enjoyed many good times together.
