Mansur (Jim) Jamani

JAMANI, Mansur (Jim) - It is with a heavy heart and great sadness we announce Mansur (Jim) Jamani, 76, passed away January 29, 2019 surrounded by his wife, daughter and son-in-law at London Health Sciences, Victoria Campus, having battled prostate cancer since 2014. Jim is survived by his wife, Sudesh (Deshi) of 45 years, daughter Farah, and son-in-law James Pencharz and their two children Leila and Oliver. He is also survived by his two brothers: Sudru (Heike) Jamani of the UK and Azim (Rosemin) Jamani of Vancouver along with extended family, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents, brothers Abdul, Noordyn and Sherally and sisters Roshi and Dolubai. Jim was born in Kakumiro, Uganda on January 30, 1942. He proudly studied to become a lab technologist in Cardiff, Wales. He met Deshi in the UK and together they immigrated to Canada, settling in Stratford, ON in 1974 where he began his career in Hematology at Stratford General Hospital. Jim was passionate about his chosen career cherishing the close relationship he had with his physician colleagues and the impact his vast knowledge and experience could have on the numerous students he taught. One of his favorite sayings was: “there is a person at the other end of that microscope”. His retirement in 2001 afforded him the time to become an avid reader valuing greatly the knowledge garnered from books, particularly those about philosophy and politics. Most evenings he could be found reading a book, quietly listening to jazz while drinking a glass of his homemade wine. In the mornings, he could be found at the crack of dawn on the first tee with his close golfing buddies at the Stratford Golf and Country Club. To many, he was a quiet and stoic man; to family he was a wise and pragmatic father and husband who loved nothing more than spending time with family and friends, especially his grandchildren who were the jewel of his eye. A special thank you to the Palliative Floor (C6) doctors and nurses at Victoria Hospital for their loving care and support through his final days. Donations can be made to either Prostate Cancer Canada to help eradicate this disease ( or to a cause close to his heart of Children’s Literacy Foundation ( A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, May 5 2019 at the Stratford Golf and Country Club between 1-4 p.m.13325279
