Sigrid Burkhardt

BURKHARDT, Sigrid - 1944 - 2019 The family announces with sorrow the passing of their beloved mother on Sunday February 10th, 2019 surrounded by family. Loving mother of Barbara (Peter Leeftink) and Linda (Dan) Flageole. Devoted and proud Oma of Brady (Tauja), and Zakary. Great Oma of Taeyah. She was recently predeceased by her special little grandson Noah, who she is now watching play Legos and getting into mischief. Sigrid will be sadly missed by her sister Barbara Heller of Germany, her sister-in-laws Iris Kreidl & Christine MacAdams and her nieces & nephews in both Germany and Ontario. Some of us are lucky enough to meet an extraordinary person. Sigrid was one of those people. It wasn’t about one specific incident that made her stand out it was all of her interactions with the people she met, and her positive nature that set her apart. She had an abundance of intriguing stories that she would share with new acquaintances, or with those she was lifetime friends with. Sigrid was truly a beautiful lady who was always smiling, which is a trait she passed down to the following generations. Not only was she well known for her vegetable and flower stand in Connaught, but was loved for her delicious canned goods. She could have been even more loved for making the best homemade cakes such as her black forest cake and her apple cakes, which she mixed with her “double purpose” wooden spoon ;) Despite many obstacles she had throughout her life she was content, always went out of her way to help others and was genuinely happy. She said that she Lived Her Life and because of that we are all truly grateful. Reflective of Sigrid’s great love for both children and animals, the family would gratefully acknowledge donations to the charity of your choice. The family would also like to thank Dr. Houston for all of his care and compassion throughout the years. The family will receive friends on Saturday February 16th, 2019 from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M. & 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. at STINSON FUNERAL HOME , 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON (705)235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net13326158

Dear Barb and Family

We were very sorry to hear of Sigrid's passing. During Deb's time as principal of Whitney, Sigrid was a valuable volunteer and a respected grandmother. She always brought a positive energy into the school. Brian never met her but through Deb discovered a gardening pal. He and Sigrid traded tomato seeds, passed along progress reports and bragged about who grew the biggest and best. (Sigrid always won!) Her amazing seed will be labelled 'Sigrid's Best' in her honour. RIP Sigrid.

Our sympathies on the passing of Sigrid. I only had the pleasure of knowing her for eight years but it seemed as if I had known her forever. If you were feeling a little blue and stopped and talked to her for a few minutes, you always felt great after her smiles. I am sure that Zakary will be lost without her.She will continue to smile down on all of us, but she will be missed greatly.

Condolences
