Arvo Turkki

TURKKI, Arvo - 1923 - 2019 In Loving Memory It is with tremendous sorrow we announce his sudden passing on February 14, 2019. He will be sadly missed by Aili, his beloved wife of 62 years and children Paul (Susan) of Toronto, Anita of Ottawa and David of Toronto. Fondly remembered as Pappa by grandchildren Matti, Mia-Eliisa, Mia and Sacha. Arvo came to Canada from Finland, settled in South Porcupine and proudly shared stories of his time as a soldier and secret messenger in the Finnish Army during the Winter War. He worked as a miner, was an avid fisherman and voracious reader, and could regularly be found with his many friends both within and outside of the Finnish community discussing subjects ranging from history to current events as long as there was room for a joke or two. Remembrance donations will be graciously received through Stinson Funeral Home by the Spruce Hill Lodge and the Kulta Koti. A memorial service to celebrate Avro’s life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to STINSON FUNERAL HOME , 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, (705)235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net.13327027

Our condolences to the Family of Arvo Turkki. A wonderful person who showed much faith and goodwill to our family.

I will never forget his humor and great candor .What a fisherman and great skier!! I could never keep up with him.

And of course, the fishing spots were never empty.

Thank you, and God Bless the Turkki family for all their friendship and support through the years.

Sue and I got to know Mr and Mrs. Turkki as we purchased their cottage at Barbers Bay. Mr. Turkki indeed has a great sense of humour with always a story to tell. He is a gentle soul and we are sorry to hear of his passing. May he Rest In Peace.
