Sam Rubino

RUBINO, Sam - 1934 - 2019 Sam passed away Thursday, March 14th, 2019 with his children and family members by his side at the Timmins and District Hospital. Beloved husband of the late Mary Rubino (January 2019). Devoted father of Vito Rubino and Tina (Raymond) Poitras. Cherished and loving Nonno of Lexia, Emma and Gabriel Poitras. Predeceased by his parents Vito and Rosaria, his siblings Maria Rubino (Nicola Gratta), Paola (Dominic) Flaminio, Dominic (Rita) Rubino, brother in law Francesco Gratta and nephews Nicola and Vito Gratta. Mother and Father In Law Antonio and Fortunata Sinopoli, sister in law Rosina (Ralph) Lanzellotti, Cecilia Sinopoli and brother in law Frank Sinopoli. He is survived by his sister Nicolina Rubino Gratta (Italy) and sister in law Marlene Sinopoli. He will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews, Robert (Joanne) Rubino, Frank (Candiace) Rubino, Vito (Frances) Flaminio, Frank (Mary) Gratta, Antonia Gratta, Vito Gratta, Antonio (Imma) Gratta, Maria (Franco) DiSalvo, Antonio (Anna) Gratta, Dominic Flaminio, Peter Flaminio, Mario (Cathy) Lanzellotti, Frank (Chris) Lanzellotti, Deborah St.Jean and Gilles St.Jean. Sam immigrated to Canada at the age of 18 for a better life and to begin work in the mining industry of Northern, Ontario. He worked as a miner for 18 years. He left mining and became an employee of the City of Timmins for 23 years. He was a Grader operator and later a Foreman in South Porcupine until his retirement. Sam and Mary retired the same year and spent most of their time on Barbers Bay, his favourite place to be. It has been the gathering place for family and friends for over three decades. When not spending time at the lake they could be found in the Niagara region visiting their grandchildren whom they loved wholeheartedly. Sam also possessed a love of soccer and played the sport as a child in Italy and later recreational soccer for the Dante Club for many years. Sam later became a lifetime member of the Porcupine Dante Club. He joined on December 21st, 1977 for a total of 42 years of membership. He also served one term on the Board of Directors. Sam was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and received the honour of Fourth Degree Knight. Donations to the Timmins and District Hospital would be gratefully acknowledged by the family. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Joachim's Parish on Tuesday March 19th, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. The family will receive family and friends on Monday March 18th, 2019 from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M to 8:00 P.M. at STINSON FUNERAL HOME , 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON.
