Violet Ryan

RYAN, Violet - 1928-2019 In loving memory The family wishes to announce with great sorrow the passing of their mother Violet Ryan at Extendicare in Timmins Ontario surrounded by family on the 28th day of June 2019. Violet was the Beloved wife of the late Robert Ryan (1986). Loving Mother of , Debbie Bazuik (Jim), Bob Ryan (Kim), Kathy Hood (Dave), Vicky La Prairie (Reagan). Devoted grandmother of 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She will be sorely missed by several nieces & nephews having had a special connection with her niece Karen Dekeyser (Brian). Violet was predeceased by her husband Robert Ryan (1986), by her daughter Gayle Ballantyne (2017) and by her siblings Ronald Tonkin (Barbara), Jack Tonkin, Rosemary Burns (John) and Joyce Wilson (Bob). Survived by sister in law Elizabeth Tonkin. Violet was born in Timmins Ontario to Beatrice and Foster Tonkin enjoyed many aspects of life, from an early career working as a Telephone Switchboard Operator to raising a family of five children. Violet was creative and crafty, knitting beautiful sweaters, hats and mittens, to a self- taught seamstress, she was second to none. Where most people had a green thumb, I am sure she was born with two…she could not only grow beautiful garden plants but also revive them, loving the “Violet” flower it was also her favorite colour. Curling captured her interest in her early 40’s and was a member of the Palmour Business Ladies Curling Club. When her husband Robert (Bob) passed in 1986, she resided in Guelph Ontario and worked at a clothing factory and then retired at the age of 65. Travelling in her later years with her younger sister Joyce rolled from one adventure to another, taking them from Northern Ontario, Arizona, Fort McMurray and numerous points in between. Violet was a great cook and always had her homemade chocolate cake, pasties pies and Tetley tea waiting upon our arrival. Her home was always open to all and no one ever left hungry. Mom was always there when needed, but not to interfere and fostered good in all her children. With the arrival of many grandchildren and later many great-grandchildren, there was no joy better than to be with her family. Now that she has gone, she will remain with us and still guide us as she always has….until we meet again Mom. Donations to the Alzheimer’s Society or the Timmins Humane Society will be gratefully acknowledged by the family. Thank you to Dr. DiTullio and some very special caregivers at Extendicare and especially “Team Violet” who went beyond for our mom. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 6th, 2019 at STINSON FUNERAL HOME . The family will receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. on Saturday July 6th, 2019 prior the Memorial Service at Stinson Funeral Home, 100 Bruce Avenue, South Porcupine, ON, P0N1H0 (705) 235-2900 www.stinsonfuneralhome.net13339844
