Douglas Legate

LEGATE, Douglas D.R. Legate Bsc. Pharmacy It is with tremendously heavy hearts that the family of Douglas Rupert Legate announces his passing on Tuesday, July 2nd, 2019. Doug passed peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family, in his 90th year. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years on June 29th, D. Louise Legate (nee Paterson). He leaves behind his children, Mary, John (Barb) and Donald, all of Owen Sound. Papa will be dearly remembered by his grandchildren, Olivia, Bryton (Tyler Cogar), Shelby (Matt Pritchard), Sarah (Tyler Langner), Jacob and by his 8 great-grandchildren. He will also be remembered by Louise’s sister and brother, Ann Sears (Skip), of Toronto and William Paterson (Phyllis), of Waterloo and his nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents, Rupert and Cora Legate (nee Miller); his parents-in-law, Garfield and Hazel Paterson (nee Cornett); his sister, Margaret Bannister (Bob). Doug graduated from the U. of T. Faculty of Pharmacy. He began his career working briefly in Owen Sound and shortly thereafter he purchased his Pharmacy in Chatsworth. Doug served his community until his retirement. He was recognized from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Toronto for his 50th anniversary of graduation and was awarded Member Emeritus by the College of Pharmacists for devoted service to the profession of Pharmacy. At this time we would like to thank the Owen Sound EMS, the Owen Sound Police Services and especially, Dr. Cam Tweedie for his unwavering support and care of Doug. Thanks also to Dr. Fred Veenstra for his kindness the evening of Doug’s passing. As per Doug’s wishes, a Private Family Celebration of Life will be held at the BRIAN E. WOOD FUNERAL HOME , 250 – 14th Street West, Owen Sound, Ontario N4K 3X8 (519-376-7492) on Sunday, July 7th, 2019. In lieu of flowers and if so desired, the family requests donations to the Chapman House Hospice to be made in his memory. I am so sorry to hear that Doug has passed on. I had the pleasure of meeting him at gatherings on several occasions. He’s a very special man who had a great sense of humour and wit about him. So sorry Louise, Mary, Don, John, Barb and extended families , you have my deepest condolences.

to Doug's spouse and family. I was a co-worker with Doug back in the 1950s when he was a pharmacist at Rolands Drug Store in Owen Sound. Mind you I was just the delivery boy at the time, but he was great to work with. Murray Miles, Kitchener, ON
