Elsie Marion Turner

TURNER, Elsie Marion - The family is saddened to announce that Elsie passed away peacefully in the company of loving family members on March 24, 2016 in Summerland, BC, at 91 years of age. She is survived by George Turner, her loving husband of 68 years, sons Brian (Sharon) Ottawa, ON, Russell (Beth) Penticton, BC and Raymond (Marilyn) Calgary, AB, 7 grandchildren, 18 great- grandchildren and brother James Dale Moir. She is predeceased by her son Allan Marshall Turner (1960), mother Mary Ellen (Sager), father William Moir and sisters Merle Smith and Anna Brown. Elsie was born in Estonia, Manitoba, and grew up in Mantario and Codette, Saskatchewan. She graduated from nursing school at Brandon General Hospital in 1947 and spent her working life assisting and comforting patients in Nipawin and Saskatoon SK, Calgary and Pincher Creek AB, and Kelowna BC. Elsie and George raised their family in Kelowna from 1956 to 1968 before moving to Lakeview Heights/Westbank. For 15 years Elsie enjoyed the view overlooking the Okanagan Lake until they moved to Kelowna in 1984 and in 2014 from Kelowna to Penticton to be closer to family. Elsie was known for her selfless dedication to family through her quiet and observant guidance, hard work, empathy, love, compassion, a clear social conscience and quick sense of humor that could take some by surprise. To a fault, she was never one to complain or put anyone else out. Throughout her life, she had an appreciation for nature and was happiest outside in her garden listening to song birds. She was an avid cross-country skier, cruising Telemark trails with George each winter on a regular basis. She loved to golf and travelled across Canada and Alaska in their travel trailer. She was an avid scrap-booker and very politically aware of local and national issues and was probably well known by many politicians for her personal letter writing ‘campaigns’. Also left to mourn Elsie are her many friends, colleagues, and her local extended family: Irene and Christle Warlow, Pat and Don Kelly as she spent her last years in Penticton. A funeral service was held at the EVERDEN RUST FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1130 Carmi Ave., Penticton on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 - 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be shared by visiting

I knew his brother Alvin, .. his wife was my Sunday school teacher

I also knew the Moir family well....

I was at the official Hall opening

Bill Moir was in charge of admissions.

I was standing there at 12 Years Old.

Bill bought a raffle ticket on a 1949 Pontiac

He put Mrs Manley’s name on It..
