Lucille Markus

MARKUS, Lucille - October 7, 1928 - March 10, 2016 - Lucille Markus nee McDonell was born on October 7, 1928. She passed away on March 10, 2016 at the Davidson Health Center with her daughter Sharon by her side. She was predeceased by her husband Al, her daughter Terry, her parents John and Marjorie McDonell and two brothers Bob McDonell and Rod McDonell. Lucille is survived by her loving family: daughters Sharon (Lorne) Riecken, Connie (Eugene) Rudy and her son Paul (Debbie) Markus and son-in-law George Bessey. Eight grandchildren: Tracey (Cory) Uhrich, Dana Bergerman, Greg Bessey, Lori (Gary) O'Brien, Beverly (Wayne) Lamb, Rochelle Riecken (Kevin Hutton), Ericson Markus (Faryn) and Jenna Markus. She also leaves to mourn 16 great-grandchildren: Shelbey, Kendra and Cailyn O'Brien, Josh, Brayden and Brienne Uhrich, Hailey, Cassie and Lawson Lamb, Hunter, Hannah and Bailey Bergerman, Simone and Sasha Bessey, Gavin and Mckenna Hutton. Also her sisters Jean (Gord) Pearmain, Mardy Hopper and special cousins Keith (Sheila) Hawkins and Phoebe Fombeur. Along with many friends old and new. Lucille was born on the family farm near Grenfell, Saskatchewan moving north to Aylsham with her family in 1940 where she completed her grade 12 and where she met and married her husband Al. They had two daughters Terry and Sharon both born in Nipawin. In 1952 the family moved to Davidson SK, where she worked in the Dry Goods Department of the local Co-op. They had two more children; daughter Connie and son Paul. In 1965 the family moved to Carrot River SK, where Lucille helped on the farm and worked as a nurse's aide at the hospital. Later she purchased Jos Jeans in Nipawin and worked there until her retirement. She was an avid curler, golfer, and an excellent seamstress and enjoyed many crafts. Lucille and Al spent their summers at their home in Nipawin and winters in Utah and BC until they were no longer able to travel. In 2008 health issues and the need to be closer to doctors in Saskatoon brought them full circle back to Davidson. She spent her last two years at the Davidson Health Center where she enjoyed playing cards and the drums in the kitchen band and was a favorite of the staff. A graveside service was held at the Aylsham Cemetery on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Memorial donations in Lucille's memory may be made to the Aylsham Cemetery or Davidson Health Centre.
