SWITZER, Eveline Françoise (nee Bothorel) - Eveline (better known as Evelyn) passed away peacefully on Sat. January 7, 2017 at the age of 98. She was born December 26, 1918 on the family farm north of Tisdale to parents Jean and Marie Anne Bothorel. Evelyn attended New Market School and had many fond memories growing up on the farm and playing with her siblings. She sometimes recalled the tough times, but the family always looked out for one another and made the best of everything. Her parents later sold the farm at Tisdale and bought land between New Osgoode (the postal address) and Zenon Park, a town with an active French community and a Catholic Church. When Evelyn completed school, she took her nursing training at the St. Therese Hospital in Tisdale. She nursed in Tisdale, Macklin, Borden and Nipawin. Dr. Fitton hired her as his office nurse, receptionist and bookkeeper. Later she took a lab and x-ray course. She worked in Nipawin for Dr. Fitton, other physicians and later Dr. Gale for 33 years in total. Evelyn loved golfing, curling, and served on many of these as well as church committees. She also enjoyed socializing with friends and family and was a very worthy partner in many a card game! Family to her was very important and she devoted much of her time to her parents, siblings, nieces, and nephews. Evelyn was very strong in her faith beliefs and she was very dedicated to attending Church Mass services regularly. She was a long time member of the CWL and was the last Charter member at St. Eugene Church in Nipawin. She had received the Maple Leaf pin, which is an honor in the CWL for longevity and dedication as a member. Evelyn found the man of her dreams and married Lloyd Switzer July 6, 1972, the first marriage for both of them; she was 54 and Lloyd was 52. They enjoyed 37 years of happiness together, with many adventures, being on the farm, trips, card games, dances, and were great examples of how to enjoy life together. Lloyd & Evelyn ran the golf course in Nipawin for 3 years after Lloyd sold the farm, and they were the first to bring in riding golf carts to Nipawin. Evelyn's love of life and family was something very precious to her. When Mark & Bev moved to Nipawin with their 3 boys (& added 1 more later); she was thrilled to have some family so close by and was in her glory. Evelyn & Lloyd then became Grandparents as well as special Aunt and Uncle to these 4 boys! The love they had and demonstrated to Trevor, Tyler, Jason, and Kristin was amazing. She would have them for birthdays, sleepovers, movie nights, wiener roasts, hikes in the Klemmer woods, lunches, and mentored them - the boys all looked forward to these times and the Switzers were kept young being with them! After Lloyd's passing in 2009, Evelyn's Condo family were a great help to her with rides to Church, suppers, cards, and looking out for her. She spent a lot of great times over the years with Suzanne Staffen-Werrett, her long-time friend, and we knew if she wasn't in her own suite in the Condo she was probably with Suzanne! Eveline really enjoyed the times she had with all her siblings and had a special bond with Thérèse (Terry), her younger sister who she greatly influenced when growing up. Evelyn took Terry on trips and then later on Evelyn really enjoyed the trips Lou & Terry took her on. Evelyn lived her life to the fullest, keeping a very healthy lifestyle. She walked almost every day until a few months ago. She was always kind and helpful to others - a great inspiration and example to many. She will be greatly missed. Eveline is predeceased by her loving husband Lloyd Switzer; her parents Jean and Marie Anne Bothorel; her sisters, Philomène, Jeanne, Marie and brother Alex; brothers-in-laws Elie Hudon, Louis Briand; sister-in-law Irene Bothorel; nephews Victor Hudon, Alan Bothorel, and Paul Briand. Evelyn is lovingly remembered by her sister Thérèse (Louis) Julé & family; her Nipawin family Mark & Bev Bothorel, and honorary grandchildren: Trevor; Tyler (Kathryn) & children Birkley, Harper, Lennon; Jason (Kalie Winslow); and Kristin; and her niece Phyllis Pogany (Brian Bryden), and numerous other nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank Nipawin Home Care, Arborfield Special Care Lodge, Pineview Lodge, and Nipawin Hospital for the great care they gave to Evelyn. A Memorial Service was held on Monday, February 20 at 1:00 pm at St. Eugene Roman Catholic Church in Nipawin. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in memory of Evelyn to Pineview Lodge, Nipawin Hospital, or a charity of your choice.
