Dorothy was born on the family farm at Rayside, SK on November 16, 1921. She was the oldest of 3 children born to Harry and Gladys Parks. She taught in the one room country school at Dry Creek, Foxdale, Norwood (near Star City), Alticane (near North Battleford) and later at Resource where Dorothy met Andrew Bye. On July 10, 1047 Dorothy married Andrew Bye of Resource and to this union, 6 children were born. They lived on the Bye homestead, moved into their new hour in 1951, and raised their family on the farm. Once all 6 children were in school, Dorothy returned to teaching in the fall of 1967 and taught Kindergarten in Melfort at Burke, Brunswick and Reynolds School for 10 years. In September 1999 Dorothy and Andrew retired, leaving the farm, and moving to Diefenbaker Place in Melfort, SK. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage until Andrew’s passing on February 19, 2006. Dorothy was a loving teacher, homemaker, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend to all. She enjoyed gardening, embroidering, reading, crossword puzzles and a good cup of tea with friends and family. Dorothy lived at Diefenbaker Place for 17 years until she moved to Chateau Providence in St. Brieux in May 2017. Dorothy will be sadly missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. Thank you to both Mr. and Mrs. Bye for the fond memories and recollections I have of them from my days growing up in Resource.
