KYBA, John Patrick - Patrick was born in Canora to Kathleen Elsie Fowler and John Peter Kyba. His education began at the back of his father's one-room schoolhouse in Neilburg before he was of school age. Following high school in Melfort he entered the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon where he gained both Bachelor's and Master's degrees. In 1964 he crossed the Atlantic arriving in London where he gained his doctorate at the London School of Economics and Political Science and met Alison, his soon-to-be wife of fifty years. Within days of defending his doctoral thesis he was married and left for the University of Guelph in Ontario. During his thirty-four teaching career he devised and taught classes in Canadian, Western Canadian and British politics. Among several publications, focussing on environmental topics, he published a biography of Alvin Hamilton, a minister in the cabinet of John Diefenbaker. Patrick was an avid sportsman, played hockey with the Guelph Goodtimers, curled at the Guelph Curling Club and played tennis at the Souithampton Tennis Club where he enjoyed summers with Alison and their three children, Jennifer, Robin and Alexandra. Pat died peacefully surrounded by his family on the 23rd of November, 2017 and has donated his body to the Department of Human Anatomy at the University of Guelph.
We will miss him dearly.
Our deepest condolences to his entire family.
