BUTTERS, Margaret (Foss, Tooke) - Margaret Jeanette Butters (nee Tooke), passed away peacefully on January 27, 2019 at St. Patrick's Home in Ottawa, at the age of 97. She was predeceased by her husbands Leo Pratt Foss and David Lowell Butters. Mother of her son Leo Foss (Helene), and of her daughter, Suzanne Persall (Wayne) and her predeceased daughter Joyce Sandie (Ray). Grandmother of Dimitris (Eileen) Foss and Reatha Sandie, and great grandmother of Daniel Foss and Lara Foss. Beloved aunt of Karen (Art) Pethybridge, David (Lana) Tooke, and Patricia (George) Haick. She was born in Thorold, Ontario in 1921 and in 1927 moved to Niagara Falls, NY together with her parents and brother Edward Tooke. In 1940, she returned to Canada to marry Leo Pratt Foss. In 1962, she married David Lowell Butters, moved with him to Duluth, Minnesota, and following his retirement moved to St. Joseph Island, near Sault Ste. Marie. David passed away in 2008, and Margaret moved to Ottawa, Ontario to be close to her son and daughter-in-law. During her life, besides being a mother of three children, she was Women's Editor of the Welland Evening Tribune, Copy Editor for advertising, insurance salesperson, museum volunteer, cub leader, tatting teacher and theatre volunteer. She prided herself in her wide range of interests, hobbies and reading. A memorial gathering will be held at the West Chapel of Hulse, Playfair and McGarry, 150 Woodroffe Ave., (at Richmond Rd.) Ottawa, from 10:00 a.m. til 12:00 noon on Saturday, February 2, 2019. Internment will be held in late spring or early summer in Richard's Landing, Ontario, where she will rest near her husband David. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Patrick's Nursing Home, Ottawa, for their care and support of Margaret during her residence there.
