BURGOYNE - Sgt. Andrea Burgoyne will retire from the Canadian Armed Forces on 22 December 2013. She started her military career on 15 October 1989 in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia for recruit training. Her first posting in 1990 was Trenton, Ontario where she spent an uneventful 5 years. In 1995 she found herself Alberta bound to spend the next 10+ years in Edmonton, doing lots of exciting Army training. She went on three overseas tours to Bosnia, Kosovo and Afghanistan and three domestic operations: BC to help fight forest fires, Quebec to help those affected by the ice storm and Kanaskas for the G8 summit. In 2006 she was back in Kingston, Ontario where she did her second 9 month tour in Afghanistan (Kandahar), her second G8 summit in Huntsville and a training exercise in Russia. In 2011 she was posted to the Electrical, Mechanical Engineer School in Borden, where she helped new recruits in their transformation from civilian to military life. In 2013, instead of accepting a promotion to Warrant Officer and a new posting to Gagetown, New Brunswick, she decided to put in her release from the military and put an end to her 24 year career in order to stay in her home in Kingston. Andrea is the daughter of John and Sharon (nee Zareski) Burgoyne of Welland and is a graduate of Notre Dame College School and Niagara College in Welland. Her sisters Erika and Michelle as well as her Brothers in law George Monaghan and Kirk Smith along with her nephews George Jr. and Griffin offer their congratulations. "Well done Andrea, you make us all proud."
